It’s time to #MeetWilden! Meet Wilden Community Members Brianne Dowhaniuk and Sheree Dubé from Hammers & Heels Kelowna.

1. What are your names?

Brianne Dowhaniuk (left) and Sheree Dubé (right)

2. Which Wilden neighbourhood do you live in?

Hidden Lake

3. What do you two do for work and where can we find you online?

We own and operate a small business called “Hammers & Heels”. We create and build Custom wood Furniture and Home Décor.  We do all the work ourselves and work between both our garages. We have a Facebook page and can be found under Hammers and Heels Kelowna, as well as on Instagram.

4. What do you do for play?

Brianne: Anything to do with the beach. I got a SUP last year and I really enjoy taking it out and paddling around. I love biking the trails in WILDEN with my husband and kids and in the winter we love to ski as a family.

Sheree: I enjoy swimming, skiing and geocaching as a family. We also enjoy playing in the Wilden parks and chilling in our backyard.

5. What is your secret superpower?

We have the ability and creative talents to take scrap pieces of wood and create fun, functional and unique pieces for our home and yours.

6. What are some of your favourite things about living in Wilden?

Brianne: I love that we live so close to town and yet we are just far enough away. I love the mountains and ponds and wildlife. It is a real community here and people look out for one another….it’s home.

Sheree: I love being part of a community and knowing most of my neighbours. I love the mountains, the parks, the views and the people. Wilden really is one of the best neighbourhoods to live in.

7. What is Kelowna’s best kept secret?

Brianne: Does Kelowna have any secrets? I don’t think it is much of a secret but we LOVE going to Bouchons Bistro for dinner. It is small and quaint and the food tastes amazing. The owners always make you feel so welcome and that they truly enjoyed serving you.

Sheree: It may not be a secret because it is hard to get a reservation but I still know so many people that have never been to or heard of the FIXX café. Chef Lisa and her crew prepare amazing food and have exceptional service. We also LOVE Bouchons so it is a hard decision to make when we are planning a nice night out.

8. What is your favourite locally made product?

It is hard to pick just one, but we both really enjoy the Kelowna Farmers’ Market and the “Unless Market” on Bernard.  Sarah, who owns and operates the store has a great concept for her shop…sell only local products from local artisans! She has a wide variety of products she carries from all natural beauty products, to farm fresh eggs to Hammers & Heels pieces! It is a great place to go and spoil yourself with a locally made product or buy a unique gift while supporting local businesses.

9. If you could give $1M to charity, which one would you choose?

There are so many great charities that we really could choose but in all honesty if we had to choose one we would want to choose local and support our hometown. The Kelowna Food Bank would be, who we would donate to. Imagine all the families we could feed with that kind of money?

10. What is the one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

When people meet us and see us together they never believe that we have been neighbours (joined by back fences) for almost 7 years, but have only been friends for 2 years and have been in business together for 1.5 years. After only 2 months of knowing each other we started our first project and built a backyard playhouse, we haven’t stopped building together since!

11. If you weren’t living in the beautiful Okanagan, where would you live?

Brianne: I am a lover of all seasons and NEED to be near water and mountains. I find it calming. That is a really tough choice though because I love to travel and it would be hard to beat where we live. Last year my husband took me to the Sunshine Coast for our 10 year anniversary and I really LOVED being there and enjoyed how laid back, quiet and relaxed it was but how much adventure there was to explore. I could absolutely see myself living there if I did not live here in the beautiful Okanagan.

Sheree: I can’t imagine being anywhere other than the beautiful Okanagan but if we were to live somewhere else it would probably be in Beautiful Quebec City as that is where my husband grew up and he has a very large family there.

We love the pieces from Hammers & Heels! What about you?
