Over 200 runners, walkers and volunteer, plus 26 dogs had fun on the Wilden trails on October 14th.

A huge Thank-You goes out from Wilden and the Blenk Family to everyone who was part of our first Wild One Run – runners, walkers, volunteers as well as sponsors and donors. Our trail run planning committee was excited to see so many more people than expected participate and support the cause to raise funds and awareness for youth mental health.

Kodiak BC contributed by donating their video and photography services capturing runners in action as they climbed the Wilden trails and crossed the finish line. You can check out all the pictures as well as results on the race website www.WildOneRun.ca.

Here are some race stats:

  • 26 dog-owner teams,
  • 40+ kids in the 1 km run,
  • 50+ runners in the 10 km
  • 60 in the 5 km Walk/Run…
  • 180 total participants, not including volunteers on the trails.

And here’s how much money we were able to raise for the Blenk Family Fund:

  • $1,369.37 in donations
  • $1,127.18 in race proceeds
  • $1,500 donated by GeoTility
  • Giving us a total of $3,996.55.

Gerhard Blenk the developer of Wilden and founder of Blenk Development Corporation decided that the company will match the amount of funds raised and doubled the amount to a total of $7,993 that will go directly to resources in Kelowna supporting Youth Mental Health, such as the Foundry, as well as to research and education in youth suicide prevention.

Huge thank you to Allison Ramchuk from the KGH Foundation for participating in the run and sharing information about our cause during the award ceremony. We appreciate your partnership and are proud to have such committed people in our community.

Thank you to everyone who came out to spread awareness and raise money all while sharing smiles and good vibes. This was such a special day for us and we cannot wait to have everyone gather again next year for the second run of exploring the wild backcountry of Wilden. In the meantime you can enjoy a little recap video by Kodiak BC and stay tuned for the 2019 WILD ONE at www.wildonerun.ca

Are you going to be a Wild One next year?
