It’s time to #MeetWilden. Meet Wilden Resident & Triathlete Malindi Elmore!

1. What is your name?

Malindi Elmore

2. Which Wilden neighbourhood do you live in?

Upper Canyon

3. What do you do for work and where can we find you online?

I coach triathletes and runners online, compete as an athlete and organize race events.  My website is www.trainracerepeat.com or www.runsmartproject.com.

4. How do you relax after a hard day of work?

I have a 3 year old and another baby on its way so usually relaxing is family time together.  I love being outside and being in my yard, gardening, or walking the beautiful trails around Wilden.

5. What is your secret superpower?

Haha Is there such a thing? I just try to keep things in perspective and be grateful for what I love to do every day: pursuing my goals, being an athlete, coaching amazing people, being close to my family, living in a beautiful community, being Canadian, etc.

6. What are some of your favourite things about living in Wilden?

My husband and I fell in love with Wilden about 12 years ago when we would visit from Calgary.  At the time, there was only the smaller neighbourhood of Hidden Lake/Long Ridge, etc. We thought it had such a warm and welcoming feel to the neighbourhood.  When we had the opportunity to move to Kelowna we were thrilled to be able to build our own home on Upper Canyon South (and later again on Red Rock Ct).  We have loved living so close to the trails, and having so much natural area preserved within the community. It has been amazing to see the community grow so much over the years!

7. What is the most amazing adventure to go on in the Okanagan?

We love to combine camping and spending race weekends or training camps in the South Okanagan. My favourite weekends are camping in Oliver or Osoyoos with our bikes, wetsuits, running shoes, etc and between training sessions relaxing on the lakes or jaunts to the wineries.

8. If you were an animal living in Wilden, which one would you be?

Definitely a bear.  What is more majestic?

9. If you could give $1M to charity, which one would you choose?

I have two charities that are close to heart: the YMCA Okanagan Strong Kids campaign because they provide access for families and children to recreation and social opportunities that might not be financially available to them – and it can make all the difference in the world to their health and success. Also to the Central Okanagan Community Food Bank because it breaks my heart to think that some children go to school hungry and the pain that a parent must feel when they can’t provide enough or nutritious food to their children. How can a child learn properly if they are hungry or malnutritioned? It is amazing that in a place as prosperous as Kelowna and Canada how many children are being left behind.

10. Tell us about one of your greatest adventures/memories in Wilden so far.

We had a great enclave of neighbours on Upper Canyon South.  It felt like an “old fashioned” neighbourhood where we all knew each others names and it would take an hour to walk to the mail box because we would all end up congregating one someone’s front porch.  We would often get together for BBQs, pool parties, Christmas parties, wine, etc.  There were always lots of options for house sitting, plant watering, dog walking, etc when anyone was away.

11. If you could choose anyone to be your neighbour, who would you choose?

Blake and Steve McAllister who were our neighbours on Upper Canyon. They were super friendly, fun and generous. Blake would come by and walk our dog so often that he wanted to go live with her!

12. If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

Just more of the same – the days are always too short!
