We are pleased to introduce you to Jordan Bennett, one of our exhibiting artists at the 2016 Wilden Creativity Day!

 

On Monday we introduced you to singer-songwriter Nicole Holkestad. Today on our blog you will get to know Jordan Bennett,  MFA Graduate and one of our 2016 Wilden Creativity Award finalists, who will be exhibiting three of his pieces at our second annual Wilden Creativity Day on Sunday, June 5th.

Jordan Bennett is a multi-disciplinary visual artist of Mi’kmaq heritage from Stephenville Crossing Newfoundland. Jordan has shown extensively nationally and internationally, in venues such as The Museum of Art and Design, NYC; Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, Santa Fe, NM; Campbelltown Art Centre, Campbelltown, AUS; The Power Plant, Toronto; Musée d’art Contemporain de Montréal; Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris; The Vancouver Art Gallery and was one of two artists to represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2015 Venice Biennial at Galleria Ca’Rezzonico, Venice, Italy. Jordan has been the recipient of various awards, most notably he has been long listed for the 2016 Sobey Art Award, the 2015 Sobey Art Award, presented with the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Councils Artist of the Year and named as one of the artists in the 2014 Blouin ARTINFO’s Top 30 under 30 in Canada. His art is held in private collections, The Canada Council Art Bank, The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery and other institutions.

Through the processes of sculpture, painting, digital media, installation, sound installation and other mediums his work explores observations and influences from historical and popular culture, new media, traditional craft and his own cultural practices. Jordan just completed a Masters degree at the University of British Columbia Okanagan in April with a particular focus on exploring Mi’kmaq and Beothuk visual culture.

We are excited to be able to exhibit a few of Jordan’s pieces at our 2016 Wilden Creativity Day. All of the artworks from our exhibiting artists will be kept at the Wilden Presentation Centre located on 132 Sky Ct. for one whole month after the event.

We hope to see you this Saturday from 3.20pm-4.30pm outside on our patio at the Wilden Presentation Centre where you will be able to enjoy a complimentary glass of wine from Niche Wine Company and listen to music from our  two singer-songwriters Nicole Holkestad and Jeff Piattelli.
